Nature produces such beautiful things, yet we as humans are constantly trying to alter it. We alter the simplest growth of wheat and vegetables with pesticides, raise livestock on hormones, and ingest so many chemicals into our body that they are poisoning us.
If anyone has ever read the book Skinny Bitch, then you may have an idea where the science and theory is cranking the wheels in my mind. But literature is only a start! And food is nothing in comparison to the big picture.
We alter nature, alter its beauty and wholeness, and then sit back and complain. Even worse, we alter it, destroy it... then try to replicate it through falsities and manifestations.
It's no wonder that our society is obsessed with drama and reality tv - there is nothing sacred or real in this world anymore... not even potatoes or peaches! In truth, these delicious products of the Earth are the two most pesticide ridden products in the U.S. market! But how, you may ask, does this happen when the U.S. bans so many of the pesticides that are available in the world?
Let's do some math. Where do peaches grow? In warm places. Where do we get peaches from? The supermarket. Where do supermarkets get peaches from? ...et voila, other countries in warmer climates. So, even though the U.S. bans many of these toxic substances, we import much of our produce from countries who still use them. And that, my dear friends, is how the government tricks us into believing that their produce mandates and regulations are protecting us.
And the list continues; nothing is safe. Dairy? There's genetically engineered hormones in many dairy products that I can't even pronounce. Cereal? The sugar has been stripped beyond the core, and then covered up with dangerous additives to create "sweetness." Corn? Though generally low in comparison to other foods, this vegetable is still so toxic that even baby food has been recalled as "unacceptable" and "hazardous" due to the pesticides in it.
The motivation, naturally, is money. America is too concerned with profits and earnings as opposed to the health of its own people. Yes, it is the land of the free, home of the brave, and country of dreams. But according to the head haunchos, these do not include health issues, personal risk, and individual lives.
So, for practically 50% more than the cost of regular food products, the option to buy organic is available - yet that cost factor is very frustrating, creating many boundaries for the American people. What Americans can't physically see or understand provides absolutely no motivation for them to resort to a different lifestyle, spending more disposable income on something they are completely ignorant about. In this case, knowledge is a significant source of power... to an extent.
But what happens once America is informed? The government sure as hell won't create stricter regulations, and even if they do, these toxic ridden products will still exist in bulk.
And this is where I feel the frustration rise within me. Why would the FDA approve produce that is dangerous and unhealthy? Why, taking this a step further, would the FDA allow America to get fat? Ultimately, that is what this comes down to - health and weight issues.
Travel to any other country (that is not a third world country), and one will blatantly see the higher standards of food products in correlation with a better general health then the American people. Correlation, indeed. Why we haven't picked up on it yet is anyone's guess.
